Terms of Use
In short. atlas. is licensed to you under Apple’s standard licence for App Store apps. Drive safely and treat the app as a companion, never as an instruction. Stories are written by a language model from public sources, so they can be wrong. If you publish a journey, you are publishing it to the open internet, and the rules below apply to what you publish.
1. The agreement, and your licence
By downloading or using atlas. (“the app”) or this website, you agree to these terms. If you do not agree, do not use them.
The app is licensed, not sold, to you under Apple’s Standard End User Licence Agreement for Licensed Applications (the “Apple EULA”), which forms the licence terms between you and us. These Terms of Use add to that licence; where the two genuinely conflict, the Apple EULA governs the licence itself and these terms govern everything else — in particular the public journal.
Apple is not a party to these terms and has no obligation to provide support for the app. Apple and its subsidiaries are third-party beneficiaries of the Apple EULA and may enforce it against you.
2. Using it while you travel
atlas. narrates while you drive or ride. It is entertainment and background, not navigation and not advice.
- Obey the road. You are responsible for your own driving, for the law where you are, and for keeping your attention on the road rather than the screen.
- Set the app up before you set off. Do not read, type or tap while driving; the app is built to be listened to, not looked at.
- Do not rely on it for routing, road conditions, closures, hazards or the accuracy of any place it describes.
3. What the stories are, and are not
Stories are generated by a language model from public sources — encyclopaedic records, historical datasets, open map data and, if you turn it on, archival news. That means:
- A story can be incomplete, out of date, or simply wrong, however confidently it is read aloud.
- Nothing in a story is professional, legal, medical, safety or travel advice, and no listed place is an endorsement or a recommendation to visit.
- Where a story recounts folklore or legend, it is telling you what people have said about a place, not asserting it as fact.
Verify anything that matters before acting on it. If you find a story that is factually wrong or offensive, please report it.
4. Publishing to the journal, and the rules for it
Publishing is optional and never automatic. When you publish a trip, its route, stories, narration audio, images and your chosen byline become publicly readable on this website, where search engines can index them and other people can copy them. Read the Privacy Policy before you publish.
You keep ownership of what you publish. By publishing, you grant us a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free licence to host, store, reproduce and display that content for the purpose of running the journal, for as long as it stays published.
You are responsible for what you publish, and you must not publish:
- Content that is unlawful, defamatory, harassing, threatening, hateful or that incites violence.
- Sexually explicit material, or anything that sexualises or endangers a child in any way.
- Personal information about other people — including anyone’s home address, or a route or photograph that exposes where someone else lives — without their consent.
- Content that infringes someone else’s copyright, trademark or other rights.
- Malware, spam, advertising, or attempts to impersonate another person.
Reporting and removal. Anyone can report a published page by emailing woofer.ua@gmail.com with the link and what is wrong with it. We aim to review reports within 24 hours. We may remove any published content that breaks these rules, or that we reasonably believe is objectionable, without notice, and we may block the installation that published it from publishing again. You can unpublish anything you published, at any time, from the trip’s page in the app.
5. Fair use of the service
Story generation, narration and publishing run through our servers at our cost. Do not attempt to circumvent the app’s attestation, automate requests, scrape the service, resell it, or use it in a way that degrades it for other people. We may rate-limit, suspend or block an installation that does.
6. Availability and changes
The app depends on third-party services and on your device’s connectivity; prepared offline editions are the exception, and they play without a connection. We may change, suspend or discontinue any part of the service, including the journal, at any time. We will try to give notice where a change would remove something you rely on.
7. No warranty, and limits on liability
The app and the website are provided “as is”, without warranties of any kind, to the fullest extent the law allows. We do not warrant that stories are accurate, that the service will be uninterrupted, or that it will be free of errors.
To the fullest extent the law allows, we are not liable for indirect, incidental or consequential damages, or for loss of data, arising from your use of the app or the website. Nothing here limits liability that cannot be limited by law, including liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence. Some jurisdictions do not allow certain exclusions, so parts of this section may not apply to you, and you may have rights under your local consumer law that these terms do not affect.
8. Ending it
You can stop using the app at any time by deleting it; deleting it removes your trips, stories and audio from your device. We may suspend or end your access if you break these terms. Sections 3, 4, 7 and 9 survive the end of this agreement.
9. Changes to these terms
If these terms change, this page changes with them and the effective date at the top is updated. Continuing to use the app after a change means you accept the updated terms.
10. Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the developer’s country of residence, without regard to its conflict-of-laws rules, and without depriving you of the protection of the mandatory consumer law of the country you live in.
